Pirate Animatic 3D

Due to some time issue, not all the frame were animatic in 3D. We do have a 2D animatic so overall, its ok. The 3D animatic was contributed by me, tom, lewis and dean. I then took the sound from lewis's 2D animatic and made them fit the 3D one. No major change were done between the 2D and 3D.

Here is the 3D animatic:

Pirate schedule term 1-2

Dummy schedule term1-2

Pirate Animatic

I apologise that I haven't update my blog for a while. Been busy with our deadlines for ...everything really. presentations, essays and the final hand-in. Most of the work has been done in college with the group,so there were a very good communication outside the blog.

Here if i may, with all the respect, I will show you what ive done.
I've gathered bits and pieces of 3D work from our environment artists Dean and Ashley, did some modify myself, and combined them into one piece.

Then me,tom and lewis cut down the storyboard into sections for each other to animate. The camera angle has to be a recreation from the storyboard.

Here is frame 40-41, one of the sence i've animated.
The whole thing will be uploaded on youtube lately.

Dummy Environment

Well, JB said not to post any 'copy-right' work on the blog due to copy-right issue...instead put it on his own website. But, im doing it anyway. Since we are probably not getting marked from his website.

3D Dummy Character modeling

The job was initially assigned to Dean, but he wasn't feel alright with it so I took it on.

Since at the time there were any character design yet, (neil is doing it),so i did a really quick character design to help me defining the different between the male and female dummy. I showned to JB, he liked it and gave me a go ahead.

Here's the 3D model, I took JB's half-done version( a chest) and after this is finished, i will give it to Mike Quirke to do a basic rig for the animatic.

After smooth...

Female dummy

again, this is just for animatic. a more in detailed version will be done by...either JB, Dean or me...I still need to work out Dean's timetable first.

3D Pirateship 2

This is my vision of how it could be done. The cannon was taken from JB's R&D on the cannon firing test. Lewis and Tom both liked it.

So here is the final thing (for the animatic)

An Gnome Encounter!

Yesterday afternoon, while I was..like normal, wondering around, spying other groups' work, Sarah's group seems to have a little problem so ive decided to help.

After working with them for a while I realised the problem they really got is just lack of people. As a production manager in two teams I somehow felt perhaps I could do something for them, maybe not now but in time, organising some free-lancers to help them out.

But anyway, yesterday's work was about the layout design. I have been given a basic script, from there worked about my vision of the story. I'd like to put it like a 'stage', as the feeling always come to me when i read the script that it is just like a mini theater play.
SO this is what i come up with.

The Pirate Ship 3D

I took the 3D pirateship's job because ...it's about the coolest job in the entire project!
So after Lewis has decided what type of ship he wants, he told me to model something based on images from his blog.
http://lewistaylor3rdyr.blogspot.com/2009/11/pirate-ship_05.html

and this is what i come up with

we then talked about the size of the ship and the missing cannon issue...which could be a problem destorying the story! so iv suggested a design that have a huge single cannon in front. Something like this :

and he and tom both said OK..give it a try.

Colour Script for Pirates

What i was looking to achieve is this...

But then I realised while doing the inking, that we haven't really got enough camera shots...so there is no point to just colour up the storyboard to make a colour script. Instead what i did was, I looked at the story and thought in terms of the scene and camera angle what's going to be in the frame, and only coloured the key frames in the storyboard.

In response to Lewis's mood board.

The directer and the art directer show us the way, and we will follow! Yarrr....
but to be critical about this...i think we need a bit more element of the supermarket. something like this..

OK,OK I KNOW it's boring. what about this then?

my point is, we have to include it! lewis! im talking to you!

Some Dummy video research

From the first day I had a animation in mind that was very relevent to JB's dummy project. I saw those 3D animation ages ago, and still trying to find if they're still on youtube.

But while searching for that one, I found this! a stop motion animation, but hey, it is very relevent and could maybe help with the story development?

and this!

oh well, there are literally hundreds of good animations about Mannequins.. I will ask dean for that paticular animation i was trying to find since he've seen it as well.

Supermarket research.

In addition to the research...again...it's the environment research, the supermarket.

Paul have already done a good job showing us his research. I've got some primary research at the local sainsburys on my phone, sadlly don't know how to transfer them to here... But anyway i went on google and here is what i got

The first thing that comes to my mind when trying to define/design the environment is the sense of scale...

Then it's the cereal aisle on the spot light because that's where the event's going to happen.

Some sexy pirate ships

Adding to the research, here is some pirate ship. I am very keen on making the style of the ship cartoony, or ish. Since the story will be based in a supermarket, the size of the ship is a key matter.

But then i quite like this toy ship, if we can find a way to make it more 'real' or 'manly'. that will be really cool...
